In 2007, Viñas del Cénit became part of what is now Terraselecta, a company that at the time was beginning its quest to find singular vineyards that could express the unique character of Spain’s diverse wine regions.
José Manuel Benéitez came to Viñas del Cénit from Arribes, a region where multi-varietal winemaking is a hallmark, drawn by the old vineyards he knew so well. He believes that the Tempranillo wines produced at the winery revealed only part of Tierra del Vino’s identity and is convinced that the vines hold hidden treasures that should be brought to the fore, such as the white grape varieties, long overlooked in the region.
2020 saw the launch of Cénit Blanco Viñas del Cénit’s first white wine. The excellent reaction and high ratings endorse the value of these old vines.
While remaining committed to our classic Tempranillos, we also embrace diversity, offering a more complete reflection of the identity of this unique region. The journey had only just begun.
In 2023, Viñas del Cénit took another step forward in its mission to honour the region’s identity with the launch of the Field Blend Collection: a red, a white, and a claret that evoke the early wines of Tierra del Vino de Zamora produced from vines that are now some 120 years old.
A bold and visionary project that arose from listening closely to what the ancient vines have to tell us about the true origins and identity of this region.
Viñas del Cénit began its journey in the historic Tierra del Vino de Zamora in 2004, when its founders visited the region and were struck by the discovery of vineyards over 100 years old, hidden away in an almost forgotten corner. Convinced that these vineyards had reached their zenith (cénit in Spanish), they embarked on a project dedicated to highlighting and conserving the invaluable heritage of the ancient vines of the DO Tierra del Vino de Zamora.
